Woods

I'm not out of the woods yet. I feel better, but not completely. My back has been aching and grabbing for at least two weeks. If I move the wrong way, or when I sneeze or cough (allergies...), it's agony. The only things I can think of that might have caused the back pain are the two long plane rides I took in February, and all the driving I did while I was in North Carolina. The pain started while I was over there.

We have been having rainy, gray days for a while now. Yesterday, we had strong winds again, and I noticed a huge branch had broken out of a tree in a neighbor's yard and was lying on the ground right by the road. The photos here of the woods around the edges of the vineyard are some that I took on Sunday, February 25 — 48 hours after my return to France.

  1. Ken, my Google-translate says: "Je vous souhaite un prompt rétablissement"!

    1. I don't know what the original was, but the result is perfect. On the other hand, Google-translate could produce real garbage. I've had both! Probably, in this case, Google understood your good intention and didn't want to mess it up!

  2. Ken, just like Jan Duifhuizen, I wish you a fast recovery.

    1. Fast recovery was indeed exactly what I was wishing Ken, chm! Thanks for your reply. And I do not trust Google translate automatically. I've learned French language for 6 years in school in Holland. I'm also still listening and enjoying the (complete!) Charles Aznavour repertoire, as well as Barbara and Georges Moustaki, but I still can't say: I speak French: excusez moi! Greetings from Downunder, Jan.

  6. Lie on the floor Ken :)
My dad used to do that when he had cranky muscles going wild in his back. He would just lie flat on the floor for half an hour ..
Things kind of align and quiet down after a while ... muscle pain is a pain in the arse !
Aspirin too. it helps. Can't hurt.
I woke with a backache :) I knew better and decided to move / pick up/ push a big dog crate that houses 3 cats when in a car.
It sits out on the patio, except for the times I move it around and make my back hurt.
I live in the US South .. I will loll around and be pitiful for a day or two. Indulging my paperback novel passion and talk to the cats.
You should do something similar but in French :) feel better. C

    1. What she said. I use that lying-on-the-floor "exercise" as well, learned it years ago from a health care person. But lie with your knees up, or lower legs parallel to the floor, as on a footstool.
The first five minutes will seem like forever, but over a period of time you get used to it. And it really does help everything unwind and decompress.

  7. So sorry to read this....Often lying on ones back on the floor with legs elevated from the knees to feet will help.

  8. So sorry to hear about the backache. It can have many causes, I gather (as one whose sciatica took months to clear last year), but all the advice seems to be some gentle stretching exercises and whatever other gentle movement you can manage to help things become more flexible, with warm baths as well. I used these exercises (still do, just in case), but no doubt there are plenty of others

  10. Mine aches from lifting/moving heavy patio furniture. The cats were no help at all. Useless creatures !
Hot bath and rest .. don't bed, don't pick up, don't do anything quickly ... move like an old man.
This is what my doctor told/tells me ... not that I move like an old man but you know what I mean :)
