Lasagna or lasagnes

That's the American term for the pasta and the dish, it appears. The dictionary says: "Lasagna: a baked dish consisting of layers of this pasta, cheese, tomato sauce, and usually meat." In French, I think you usually see the word spelled as lasagne, and the plural is lasagnes, just as the plural of spaghetti is written spaghettis.

Anyway, we made lasagna with zucchini (courgettes) and onions yesterday. Or Walt did.

He cut the zucchini into fairly thin strips and the onions into thin slices. He brushed the vegetables with olive oil and put them in the oven to roast on cookie sheets until they were tender.

Then he made the lasagna using ricotta cheese and parmesan cheese, not to mention a meat sauce made with tomato puree from last year's garden and some saucisses basques — pork and veal sausage meat seasoned with piment d'Espelette and other spices — and baked the dish in the oven for 30 to 40 minutes.

  4. I believe it is the Italian term for the dish also .
It looks like a model for all lasagnas to copy :) I will try this .. we are a family of non-meat eaters and zuccini is practically free right now, it is so abundant.

  5. From the Dictionary - possibly one of the oldest types of pasta.[1] The word "lasagne" and, in many non-Italian languages, the singular "lasagna", can also refer to a dish made with several layers of lasagne sheets alternated with sauces and various other ingredients.

  6. This looks delicious. I will try it. Here it is a super abundant year for zucchini though, sadly, a poor year for tomatoes and an even worse one for peppers.
