Views from the Inlet Inn in Beaufort

My friends Evelyn and Lewis are staying at the Inlet Inn in Beaufort, North Carolina, while they are here in Carteret County. Their room has a private front porch overlooking the waterfront and the body of water called Taylor's Creek. Here are three views from that porch, taken yesterday afternoon.

Beaufort is a popular stopping-off point for people traveling by boat from New England and other points north down toward Florida. It's a pretty little port town full of historic houses, restaurants, cafés, and grocery stores.

  2. Your pictures are good, Ken. This morning the view would include a wild horse grazing on Carrot Island. Lewis and I saw some porpoise in Taylor Creek about sunset last night. I can recommend the Inlet Inn to others who come this way to visit. Wish I could stay longer.

  3. Is there a restaurant called The Grocery nearby? We had a great meal there. I was the only one who could finish dessert (which means I got to eat everybody else's too). This was way back, so maybe The Grocery is gone. My ability to eat that much is gone too.

  4. Yes Carolyn, the Beaufort Grocery Company is still there. Just up Queen Street (away from the water). Fantastic place to eat.

  7. Hi Carolyn, hi Simon, yes, the Beaufort Grocery is still there and the woman at the desk at the Inlet Inn recommended it highly. Unfortunately, it's closed on Tuesdays, and on Wednesday we had other plans. Evelyn and Lewis, though, had an informal dinner at the Front Street Grill at Stillwater and enjoyed it during dinner. They were lucky to see horses (or poneys...) grazing on Carrot Island across the creek, and porpoises (dolphins) swimming in the water. They were thrilled. We had a really good two days together.

  9. Hi Ken,
Does it ever get folks (even Carolinians) confused that there is a Beaufort, NC and a Beaufort, SC?

  10. The same town names recur in state after state. How many places in the U.S. are named Springfield? The N.C. Beaufort is [BOH-furt] and the S..C. Beaufort is [BYOO-furt]. People from other states do get that confused.
